Introduction

So what is project 75? It is hopefully going to be the planning and implemtation of a road legal trackday and sprint/hillclimb car.
I have tuned and tinkered with cars in the past and have found out the hard way that without proper planning of the project from the beginning, the project can spiral out of control, work is done on the car in the wrong order, work has to be done twice, things are bought which are later discarded. So this time I'm going to plan the whole project out from the start.

So that is what project 75 is all about, but why bother with a road legal car that is destined to spend alot of the time on track? There are probably a number of reasons for that, firstly its a question of transport, i would like to be able to drive the car to and from events yes, but i'd also like to be able to drive the car day to day, and be able to drive the car to garages, shows etc. Also keeping the car road legal will give the car a small amount of saleability should I ever wish to sell it. But given my track record with cars this is unlikely.

The metamorphosis from humble road car to trackday special is also going to happen over 2 or 3 discrete phases. Everything that gets bought for the project is going to have to have a place in the final car, nothing is going to be bought just to get by until something else gets modded.

So that covers the project, and what I hope to achieve with the car, the next question has an obvious answer, what car am I going to use? Well to reach the answer I had to consider a number of factors.
Destined for the track, I wanted the car to have the following attributes:

    1. Rear wheel drive
    2. 4 door saloon (Its a touring car thing)
    3. As few electronics as possible
    4. Light weight
    5. Good weight distribution
    6. Tunable - overall aim 2-250bhp
    7. Italian
    8. Cheap (ish)

So there we have the criteria for the car. As you may have guessed from the title of the project, I decided upon an Alfa 75 to work with but which 75. Click on the donor car page to find out.
